As reported by the Baltimore Sun, Delegate Mary Washington has announced that she plans to challenge sitting Senator Joan Carter Conway for the 43rd District Senate seat. Delegate Washington is the second delegate to announce a challenge to unseat an incumbent senator. Delegate Antonio Hayes announced earlier that he will challenge Senator Barbara Robinson for the 40th District seat. Senator Robinson was appointed in late 2016 to take the 40th District seat vacated by now-Mayor Catherine Pugh.
A third sitting Delegate, Cory McCray, is expected to make an announcement this weekend that he plans to run against sitting Senator Nathaniel McFadden for the 45th District seat. Senators Nathaniel Oaks, District 41, and Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, District 44, are also expected to have election challenges.
As reported by Maryland Matters, both Senator Victor Ramirez and Delegate Carlo Sanchez are expected to make formal announcements this weekend about their 2018 election plans. Senator Ramirez is anticipated to run for Prince George’s state’s attorney and Delegate Sanchez is anticipated to file to run for his 47th District Senate seat.
