Governor Larry Hogan has announced that he appointed Kathleen A. Birrane as Maryland Insurance Commissioner to replace former Baltimore County delegate Al Redmer, who has been appointed as the executive director of the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund (MAIF).
From the Governor’s press release,
“Kathleen has the unique advantage of being able to step into this role with virtually no learning curve, and will be vital in helping the Maryland Insurance Administration navigate legal matters amidst this challenging economic climate,” said Governor Hogan. “Al Redmer has been a valued member of our administration since 2015, and I am confident that he will continue to serve the citizens of Maryland admirably in his new role.”
From the Baltimore Sun,
Before moving to private practice in 2012, Birrane was the chief lawyer for the Maryland Insurance Administration.
…Redmer, meanwhile, will head up the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund, the state-created insurer that offers coverage for drivers who are turned down by traditional insurance companies.
