Governor Hogan has announced a comprehensive initiative to bolster computer science education in Maryland. The initiative, called the ACCESS Initiative (Achieving Computer Science Collaborations for Employing Students Statewide), includes legislation to set standards for computer science training in public schools, $5 million in grants in next year’s state budget for grants to local school systems to train teachers in computer science and to buy equipment for classrooms, and the issuance of an Executive Order. The Executive Order directs the Task Force on Cybersecurity and Information Technology, as part of the Governor’s Workforce Development Board, to study opportunities to grow the sector of Maryland’s economy associated with computer science and the Information Technology industry.
