Former County Councilmember Karen R. Toles was selected by the Prince George’s Democratic Central Committee to represent the 25th legislative district of Maryland. The position became available after former Delegate Dereck Davis was selected to replace Nancy Kopp as State Treasurer.
Ms. Toles will complete the four-year term that ends this year. She previously served on the Prince George’s County Council for eight years and currently works as community affairs director for the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Senate President Pro Tem Melony Griffith, also a representative of District 25, mentored Ms. Toles when she worked as a policy advisor for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and spoke highly of her following her nomination.
“When chairman Davis resigned to take the seat of treasurer, we knew that we needed somebody who had a heart for constituent services, experience serving the community and was a fiscal leader,” Griffith said. “We found all of that in one person.” –Washington Informer
It is anticipated Governor Hogan will appoint Ms. Toles before session begins next Wednesday, January 12th.
