It is with great sadness that Manis Canning & Associates (MCA) notes the passing of an Annapolis legend, Elizabeth “Betty” Anderson. Betty served four Maryland Governors with great kindness, patience and professionalism. She will be missed.
Joseph C. Bryce, MCA Partner and Former Chief Legislative Officer remarked: “Betty was a very special person. For the 11 years we worked together, she was my partner, protector, confidante, and guiding light. She was smart, caring and always worked until the job was done.”
Governor Glendening, the first Governor for whom she worked, echoed that sentiment: “Betty was the engine that made our Legislative Office run. She was a true professional and a wonderful person who had the respect of her colleagues and elected officials. I feel honored to have worked with her for so many years.”
Governor Robert Ehrlich said “After my election [in 2002 as the first Republic Governor in forty years], the real work of assembling the best and the brightest began. We were lucky to count Betty Anderson as an invaluable member of our Legislative & Policy Office team. Betty honored my Administration and the State of Maryland with her honorable service.”
Governor O’Malley expressed a similar sentiment. “Betty was a rock in our office and her ability to organize complex projects – along with her eternal optimism – lifted us all up and made us better. The people of Maryland are better off for her service. I was fortunate to know her.”
“By the time I was elected Betty Anderson was the institutional memory of the Governor’s Legislative Office, said Governor Larry Hogan. “We could not have accomplished a smooth and efficient bill signing process each year without her wisdom and guidance. She was incredible in her dedication to public service and a joy to work with.”
