The Secretary of the Maryland Higher Education Commission, Dr. Sanjay Rai, will conclude his nearly three-year tenure later this week, the Governor’s office announced today. Deputy Secretary Elena Quiroz-Livanis will serve as interim secretary until a permanent replacement is appointed.
“I commend Secretary Rai for his dedication to public service and commitment to expanding opportunity through education,” said Governor Moore. Rai expressed pride in his work to strengthen workforce-aligned pathways and expand opportunities for Maryland students.
Quiroz-Livanis, who previously held leadership roles at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, said in a statement, “I’m honored to serve as interim secretary and continue advancing this important work in service to Marylanders. I look forward to building on our progress and working alongside our partners to ensure every learner has access to a high-quality postsecondary pathway to success.”
