The past week Manis Canning & Associates lobbyist Natasha Mehu attended the National Black Professional Lobbyists Association’s (NBPLA) 2023 Membership Meeting and Conference.
The 2nd Annual Conference took place in Birmingham, Alabama. The conference offered networking and discussions between in-house and contract lobbyists as well as corporate representatives. Panels delved into trends in energy, workforce, economic development, health, technology, education, and elections policymaking as well as revenue generation, economic opportunities, and shifts in black legislative leadership among other topics. Attendees were also able to experience the rich history and culture of Birmingham through a civil rights tour and participation in events surrounding the “Magic Classic” around the City.
About NBPLA: “The NBPLA was incorporated to act as a national agency of cooperation among Black state lobbyists for the advancement of the joint and several interests and general welfare of its members, to promote the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the professional arenas of lobbying, advocacy, legislative and government affairs, and to foster environments that encourage dialogue and collaboration among lobbyists, legislative staff, elected officials, and corporate entities.”
