Northrop Grumman has donated a jet to Anne Arundel County Public Schools as part of a new aviation maintenance technician program. As reported by the Capital Gazette,
“We talk a lot about creating opportunities that have impact for our schools and this donation epitomizes just that,” Superintendent George Arlotto said. “If you want students to excel at cutting-edge careers, we need cutting edge partnerships and this aircraft, as well as a large quantity of parts that were donated, makes it possible for us to launch the new aviation maintenance technician program.”
Now, the airplane will be moved from the location next to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport to a hangar at Tipton Airport for students in the technician program — a process that could involve being airlifted by a helicopter, said Bob Mosier, county schools spokesman. It will be relocated by the end of December.
The school system will work with Tipton Airport Authority to transport it to the county-owned airport at Fort George G. Meade. From there, the school officials will adopt a Federal Aviation Administration-approved curriculum so students can receive training to take the Airframe and Powerplant certification exams.
