Senator Richard Madaleno formally announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Governor at an event at Shady Grove in Montgomery County. As reported by the Baltimore Sun,
Madaleno told The Baltimore Sun he would be the first Montgomery countian, the first Italian-American and the first openly gay person to be elected governor of Maryland.
Other candidates who have announced their candidacy for the Democratic nomination include Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, former head of the NAACP Ben Jealous, Baltimore Lawyer Jim Shea, and Hilary Clinton advisor Alec Ross.
Several other individuals have said they are exploring a run for the democratic nomination – Representative John Delaney, former Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler, and Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.
